JLS West Hills broker spearheads donation drive for affordable housing residents

The John L. Scott West Hills office recently held a donation drive collecting cleaning supplies and furniture for Northwest Housing Alternatives (NHA), an affordable housing provider in Oregon. Broker Whitney Minnich was inspired to spearhead the effort after overhearing someone talking about how NHA was building a new campus. She got connected with NHA and decided to hold a cleaning supply drive similar to one she did years ago with her family.

“Something that seemed so simple, like cleaning supplies, made an impact,” said Minnich. “When you’re in a crisis situation it means one less thing to worry about, and that means one less burden in an already stressful situation.”

The two week cleaning bucket drive led up to a furniture drive for the NHA at the West Hills office on Saturday, Aug. 3, collecting items like beds, couches, kitchen tables and small household appliances. All of the items collected were donated to the NHA. Whitney said this cause is important to her because “the more we can do to support people when they need it the most, the better chance they have to get back on their feet.”

“Having a safe and affordable place to call home is critical to the 28 families who are moving into our new property, WALSH Commons,” said Trell Anderson, executive director for Northwest Housing Alternatives. “For many of these families, securing a home is the first step to a new start, and some may need a hand in getting fully furnished. The furniture drive that John L. Scott Real Estate hosted will provide families with items like a table to share meals, a comfortable place to sleep, or a couch where parents and kids can decompress at the end of the day.”
