John L. Scott Vashon’s van used in Styrofoam recycling effort

Vashon Island resident Nadine Edelstein poses with the John L. Scott Vashon’s van, filled to the brim with Styrofoam. Nadine collected this Styrofoam and drove the van to Styro Recycle in Kent.

The John L. Scott Vashon company-owned van was used in a large effort to recycle polystyrene last week. The project was headed up by Nadine Edelstein, a personal friend of John L. Scott Vashon broker Leslie Ferriel. Nadine spread the word to Islanders of the Styrofoam recycling run she planned to make using the John L. Scott van, and approximately 100 local residents dropped off polystyrene to recycle.

This is just one instance of the JLS Vashon van being used for good – the office has a policy of making it available to many organizations on Vashon as well as serving as a courtesy moving van for clients. During the holiday season, the Vashon Maury Community Food Bank used the van weekly for food pickups, and the executive director of the food bank recently thanked John L. Scott in an editorial.

The Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber covered the recycling effort. You can read that story online here: Carting away the island’s Styrofoam
