John L. Scott Mercer Island broker Andrea Pirzio-Biroli recently helped a client surprise her mother with a permanent home. Reshil Ete’ Offutt worked with Andrea to purchase a Woodinville condo for her mother, and asked for his help orchestrating the surprise key exchange. She received support from the local community to completely outfit the home with furniture and all of the necessary items to make it move-in ready, and in late February, Andrea set up a mock open house that Ete’ would attend with her mother Shirel Walton.

At the open house, Andrea set up door signs and flyers and began directing traffic as usual – but all of the “buyers” milling about were actually community members who helped outfit the condo. Ete’, who works as an in-home therapist for children with disabilities, announced to Shirel that the condo and everything inside was hers, and Shirel burst into tears. Shirel has had a difficult last few years, with her only son dying due to complications from addiction issues. She’s never owned a home and this condo will be ideal for her to get to her physical therapy appointments and build a home that’s all her own.
