Recognizing National Women’s History Month

A message from John L. Scott Company Marketing Officer (CMO) Leigh Canlis.

Started in 1987, National Women’s History Month recognizes all women for their valuable contributions to history and society. Many countries around the world celebrate the holiday with demonstrations, educational initiatives and other recognitions of women’s achievements and contributions.

At John L. Scott, we would like to take a moment to recognize National Women’s History Month. Many have heard of figures including Susan B. Anthony, Rosa Parks and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, but there are many women who made a positive impact on our local communities throughout history.

In 1926, Bertha Knight Landes became the first female mayor of Seattle — or of any major U.S. city. Mercedes Deiz blazed trails in the legal field, becoming the first black female lawyer in Oregon in 1960 and nine years later became the first woman of color to become a judge in Oregon.

Please join us in recognizing women who have made a positive impact throughout history this month!
