For Thanksgiving this year, John L. Scott Tacoma University Place brokers fed 20 families by donating to the local organization Making A Difference Foundation. Months previously the office collected a huge quantity of non-perishable food items at the branch for pick up by the food bank. However, procuring (and determining how to store) 20 turkeys for the food bank took a bit of strategic planning.

Volunteers with the Tacoma University Place office ended up pre-planning a transfer of 20 turkeys at Costco, coordinating to have the food bank truck meet there for pick up. A team from the JLS office met with the head of the Costco meat department who brought out boxes full of turkeys for them to cart to the long check stand line. Meanwhile the food truck sat in the parking lot awaiting the call to come to the front and retrieve the haul once the birds were paid for and the carts were exiting the store.

“Helping our community is important during this holiday season especially with need being up due to COVID,” said office leader Narva Walton. “We had a happy outcome for all and families were well fed. With not as many brokers coming into the office during the time, we also hand-delivered a Thanksgiving wine and cheese gift basket to our brokers and assistants to show our office’s support and gratitude to our brokers.”
