Last year was another impressive campaign for Portland metro-area home sales, with hordes of ravenous buyers descending upon the scrawny supply of houses and condos for sale.
At the top five firms, the combined annual sales volume was $10.3 billion in 2016, a 13.3 percent increase from 2015. On The List altogether, sales volume grew 12.7 percent to $19.3 billion.
In response, the top five firms increased their combined sales force of licensed agents 10.7 percent this year, to 2,331 but kept their combined employee level exactly the same at 177. The List overall has 4,696 metro-area agents and 565 employees.

Portland’s substantial appreciation in sales prices is clear from the fact that, despite double-digit growth in volume, the number of closed sales at the top five firms only grew 5.2 percent to 26,437. Overall, closed sales increased just 3.4 percent to 45,519 at all 34 firms on The List.
The top five remain almost unchanged since last year with the exception of the No. 4 firm that grew sales 46.2 percent in a single year to move up from No. 7 last year. Four out of the the five are based locally while the No. 3 firm hails from Bellevue, Wash.
