Amid calls for racial justice after the death of George Floyd, the National Association of REALTORS® has launched a new training video in partnership with the Perception Institute called “Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing,” which aims to help you uncover and address unconscious stereotypes you may believe. The video illustrates how the brain’s automatic association of stereotypes with particular groups can cause people to treat others differently or unfairly. Further, the research suggests that despite people’s best intentions and conscious awareness, some biases can persist.

The Perception Institute provides implicit bias training in courtrooms, boardrooms, hospitals, and to other industries.

The 50-minute video offers strategies to check your own bias and highlights how to show respect, ensure fairness, and improve business relationships. You also can take the Implicit Bias test to learn what your own unconscious attitudes are. More videos on implicit bias are to come from NAR, including a training curriculum that is being developed that real estate brokers will be able to provide to their agents.
